Closing Ceremony Speech - Baltic Forum of the EYP

(My speech as editor at the Closing Ceremony of the Baltic Forum of the European Youth Parliament, which took place in Narva, Estonia from the 27-30th November 2015. Interestingly (and irrelevantly), this was the one adventure where I used every single form of travel - train, bus, tram, taxi, boat, plane, and walking. Speech was written in note form, so this won't be exact but as far as I can remember this is pretty much what I said.)

It's strange, trying to write a speech for something like this in advance. You sit down with a pen and paper, and you try to predict the emotions you will feel, and put those emotions into words.

I realise now, standing here in front of you all at the end of these few days, that this just doesn't work. There is no way I could have foreseen how I feel now, and no way I could have possibly put that into words to do it justice, even just half an hour ago.

Because anyone can say they're happy with what they've done, and anyone can say they've worked hard. But believe me when I say that nothing could have prepared me for the overwhelming pride and gratitude that I feel right now.

There is a lot to be proud of here; I guess you could say an apundance of things to be proud of. But the clock is Bal-ticking, and if I were to mention everyone, we would be here For-um quite some time, so I'll keep it like a sugar cube from coffee break - short and sweet.

Firstly, I'm proud of you - all of you. You arrived here not having any idea of what to expect, and entered wholeheartedly into the spirit of things. From teambuilding to the Narva tour, from the Euroconcert to committee work, and then today, as you've been putting the 'solution' in resolution, you have embraced every aspect of the forum with a really admirable enthusiasm. I know it can be daunting, so I'm proud.

The ones I really want to talk about, though, are my amazing media team. Annemari, Natali, Kyryl, Joosep, Kaisla, Miki, Yulia, Mighel, Kaja, Dora, Ann. You guys have been incredible.

People say all the time that there is no I in team, but there is both an I and a me in media team, and I think that's important.

Not only have we achieved great things together and grown really close as one, each and every one of you has achieved great things and grown as individuals, so thank you. Thank you for putting up with, and even encouraging, my endless playing of Christmas music; thank you for always laughing at my terrible puns; thank you for all your amazing hard work; thank you for the fact that I can now call every one of you a friend; and thank you for your unwavering support. I couldn't have done it without you.

To the organisers and the chairs: thank you for working so closely with the media team and allowing us to make so many of our plans into reality.

Annika and Dan, you trusted me, and believed in me, and gave me the opportunity to be standing here now, doing this. I honestly can't describe how grateful I am to have had this experience, and it wouldn't have been half as good without the two of you, so from the bottom of my heart, thank you.

And without further ado, or further adon't, please enjoy the final session video.
