Eatery Hopping: Goji Vegetarian Café, York

Omg, I last published a post in May and it's nearly the end of June, omg. What better time than now to catch up on some ancient old posts that have been have-written drafts for ages? Yes, no better time than now, agreed. Let's get on with it.

Although I have bid farewell to York (for good! forever! omg!!!!!!), there are still places which deserve to be shouted about. Goji Vegetarian Café is one of them. The specials menu is constantly changing, but the standard menu is still the same, which means that publishing it now, many many moons late, is totes fine. Better late than never, eh?

Everything here is vegetarian and organic, and most of it is vegan too. Although I wasn't vegan when I visited, as far as I can remember my entire meal was vegan anyway. The day of my visit was potentially the rainiest, most torrential downpour I encountered in all my three years of being in York, so I was extremely glad of some very delicious food.

Pictured above is the medi classic burger, which is actually more of a splatty goop than a burger, but all the more delicious for it. As far as I can remember, we both had this, hence only one photo (since they were the same, duh). It's made of courgette, almonds, sunflower seeds and tomato, and is sandwiched in a ciabatta with sundried tomato paste, avocado and peppers, and comes with a salad of rocket, fennel and artichoke. Let me tell you: GET THIS. It may not look like an actual burger, but honestly who cares because what's not to love anyway?

Once you have finished your extremely tasty and delicious main, go ahead and have a gander at the specials board for whatever today's fancy pants pudding offering is.

Here we have banoffee pie and a raspberry chocolate tart, both FAB and also both from the specials board so not on the menu. Nevertheless, I have just checked the current menu online and can confirm that everything on it sounds just as delicious as these, with four of the six choices being vegan as well.

As if this wasn't enough, catchups deserve a lotta lotta time so we went for hot drinks too, to justify taking up table space - the place is definitely on the snug side, but there is extra seating upstairs. Think higgledy-piggledy with lots of nooks and crannies, and you've got the right idea.

Here we have a cappuccino and some variety of tea. I highly recommend going for one of the flowering teas, because they look so so so pretty and magical in the see-through teapot.

Go visit York Minster then go here because it's just round the corner and enjoy v tasty and v filling (and v vegan) food, then be thankful that you read this post because without it you may never have encountered such wonderful fare. Tadaaa!
