The 21-Day Blog Challenge

sneak peak: I'm going to be blogging a LOT over the next month - 21 days of blog posts, to be exact

"It takes 21 days to make or break a habit." Or so legend would have us believe, because unfortunately in this case legend is not as closely linked as it might be to behavioural psychology and neuroscience. The myth (yep, sorry, it's a myth) started in the 1950s with a plastic surgeon's observation about his patients, and even then he was clear he meant 21 days was the minimum.

Anyway, I don't care! Because I want to use the 21-days method to my advantage, and maybe it will make a habit and maybe it won't, but I'll be 21 days closer than I would have been otherwise.

To cut to the chase: I want to generate an income from my blog. In order to do that, I want to build the blog's readership and create a bit more clout for myself. In order to do that, I want do get back into a habit of regular and plentiful blog posts, and hone my writing while I'm at it, and in order to do that, I'm going to give myself a challenge. A 21-day blog challenge.

Originally, I was going to publish one blog post every day for a week, just to see if I could. Then I decided that wasn't ambitious enough, so maybe I would publish one blog post every day for 21 days, because of the old habit-forming adage. Then I realised that 21 days in a row starting from nothing was a bit nuts and I would definitely need some days off, so I stumbled upon my wondrous plan.

21 blog posts in a month. They don't have to be perfect, they don't have to be long, they don't have to be massively involved, they just have to be.

From here to the 24th October, that could mean taking every weekend off and one spare weekday somewhere if I need it too. I've got completely full weekends for the foreseeable future, and evening stuff too, not to mention I work a 9-5 job (although I'm unbelievably grateful it's only 9-5, given what most London schedules are like), so the writing will largely be before work in the mornings.

Get ready for a WHOLE LOTTA BLOG.
